Hugh Morris

August 21, 1907 — March 19, 2007

Clyde-Hugh Morris, age 99, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2007 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Cocke County, Tennessee, he had lived in Haywood County for the past 62 years. He was the son of the late Dave and Flota Rogers Morris and also preceded in death by a stepson, Arnold Rector; six brothers, and two sisters. He was a self-employed carpenter who loved farming and being with his family. He played a major role in overseeing the building and construction of Belmont Baptist Church were he was a member and served as deacon before retiring. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Evelyn Morris; one daughter, Frances Rector Trantham and her husband, Wayne; one son, Jerry Morris and his wife, Sharon; one sister, Mae McCracken; six grandchildren; and twelve grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2007 at Belmont Baptist Church with Reverend Carl Presnell, Reverend Carl Chastain, and Reverend Kenny Banks officiating. Burial will follow at Fines Creek Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. Memorials may be made to Belmont Baptist Church, 55 Belmont Church Road, Clyde, NC 28721.
