Howard Reeves

Wiley Howard Reeves, age 92, passed away on Friday, November 7, 2014 at The Homestead. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Melvin Grady and Mahala Austin Reeves. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Letcher, James, and Ralph Reeves; and a sister, Virgilene Reeves Kinsland. He retired from Champion International in 1984 with 43 years of services where he worked in the Printing Department and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church since 1952. Howard enjoyed the sport of golf, especially during his retirement. Howard was a United States Army Air Force veteran serving during World War II. He will best be remembered for being a wonderful and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Genevieve Swanger Reeves; a daughter, Linda Bolden and her husband, Rex, of Matthews, North Carolina; a son Martin H. Reeves and his wife, Manina, of Knoxville, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Jena McGann (Michael), Joshua A. Bolden (Susan), Michael and Grady Reeves; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 10, 2014 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Darrell Webb and Reverend Richard Kinsland, his nephew, officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
