Howard Messer

Clyde, Howard Messer, age 70, of 103 Hideaway Creek Road, died on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at his residence. A native and lifetime resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Melton and Virginia Rathbone Messer. He served in the US Army and later retired from the Shipping Department of the Dayco Corporation after 28 years employment and was employed by the Haywood County Maintenance and Addressing Department for the past five years. He was an avid bear hunter, fisherman, and horseman and a member of Panther Creek Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Judy; three sons, Gene Messer and his wife, Debbie, and Alan Messer and his wife, Penny, all of Canton and Phillip Messer and his wife, Celena, of Clyde; three sisters, Marlene Ferguson and her husband, Johnny, Jean Fernandez and her husband, Robert, and Louise Dennison and her husband, Jim; six brothers, Wallace Messer and his wife, Ada, Robert Messer and special friend, Amy, Jerry Messer and his wife, Debbie, Clifford Messer, Junior Messer and his special friend, Rose, and Winford Messer; and three grandchildren, Ashley, Lori, and Dalton Messer. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2008 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Mike Nations and Reverend Alan Greene officiating. Burial will follow at Panther Creek Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home.
