Howard Grasty

November 24, 1933 — April 29, 2009

Waynesville, Guy Howard Grasty, Jr., 75 passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of Guy Grasty, Sr. and the late Lois Gibson Grasty. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Betty Jo Henderson. Howard was a former employee of Dayco and was a US Air Force veteran and served during the Korean conflict. He was an avid hunter, a devoted Christian and especially loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his father, Howard is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Lou Smathers Grasty, two daughters, Daphne Grasty George and Chana Grasty Burnette; three sisters, Mary Sue Singleton, Dotty Harkins and Jackie Hannah; granddaughter, Kimberly Lane George and her fiancée Christopher Marion; grandson, Travis Patrick George, and his wife, Boni Henderson George and special great grandchildren, Autumn Nicole George and Ethan Chase George. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 1, 2009 at Green Hill Cemetery with Reverend Philip Wyatt officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 3801 Lake Boone Trail, Ste. 190, Raleigh, NC 27607.
