Hershel Owen

Waynesville, Hershel Owen, age 86, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2013 at his residence. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Jim and Rachel Franklin Owen. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Owen who passed away in 2008; three sisters and five brothers. Hershel was a painter and enjoyed fishing, the outdoors and storytelling. He was a member of Cove Creek Missionary Baptist Church. He is survived by a daughter, Barbara Owen; a son, Charles David Owen both of Waynesville; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Cove Creek Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Gary Putman and Reverend Bill Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow at Owens Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
