Gwendolyn Hilliard

Lake Junaluska, NC-Gwendolyn Durrance Hilliard, age 89, of 37 Fir Lane, died on Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native and resident of Brandon, FL, she had resided in Haywood County for the past 25 years. She was the daughter of the late Solan and Mary McRae Durrance and was also preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Stevenson; and a brother, Giles Durrance. She was a member of Valrico First Baptist Church in Valrico, FL. Her granddaughter, Amy, was the love of her life and Gwen loved flowers, especially geraniums and ferns. Gwen and her husband enjoyed traveling and camping. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Herbert Hilliard; one daughter, Judy Brown and her husband, Joe, of Lake Junaluska; and one granddaughter, Amy Brown. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 11, 2006 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend G.W. Jameson and Rufus Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services.
