George Myers

October 30, 1920 — December 18, 2003

Waynesville-George Myers, age 83, of the Bethel Community, died peacefully before sunrise on the morning of December 18, 2003 with his wife Lee by his side. In the preceding days, George was surrounded by his loving family.

George was the finest of men in the many roles of his lifetime. He was a cherished husband and father, hard worker, volunteer and traveler. He lived with integrity, generosity and timeless spirit. George was a true friend enriching the lives of countless people. He was a United States Marine who served in the South Pacific during World War II. He retired from the Fisher Body Division of General Motors in Hamilton, Ohio.

In addition to his wife of 56 years, Lee, he is survived by two sons, John and David, a beloved daughter-in-law, Lisa; one sister, Edna Marie Green, one brother, Bob Myers, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Bethel United Methodist Church, of which George was a member, on Saturday, December 20, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend J. C. Groce, Reverend Art O'Neil and Reverend Horwood Myers officiating. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall from 1:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. prior to the memorial service.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Liver Foundation, 75 Maiden Lane, Suite 603, New York, NY 10038 or Friends of the Library, C/O Haywood County Public Library, 678 S. Haywood Street, Waynesville, NC 28786.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to all who supported him with their love and prayers.
