Gail Austin

Waynesville, Jeanette Gail Austin, age 72, passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at her home. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Pless and Jessie Heatherly White and was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Sandy Austin. She was a supervisor for Haywood County Animal Control where she retired after 19 years. Gail had a true and compassionate heart for all animals and was always willing to lend others a helping hand. She enjoyed collecting dog and wolf figurines and loved her flowers. Gail is survived by her husband of 19 years, Charlie Austin; a brother, Charles White of Waynesville; two sisters-in law, Alice Heatwole and husband, Galen, and Mary Brown; two brothers-in-law, Wilbur Austin and wife, Phyllis, of Waynesville and Griff "Papa Bear" Austin of Dylwin, Virginia; aunt, Susie Heatherly of Candler; and special aunt, Addie Conard, of Waynesville; nephews, Josh, Tommy, Dalton, Richard and Jeremy; nieces, Emily, Kayla, Scarlet, Carolyn Brow and husband, Lee, and Betty Jo and Amanda Conard; great-nephew, Zach and her bullmastiff, Sadie. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2014 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with David Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at New Cruso United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
