Fredrick "Freddie" Cook, age 64, died Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at Mission Hospitals, Memorial Campus. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and the son of the late Kenny Elmer and Myrtle Mease Cook. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Lucas Paul Cook and a sister, Judith Louise Warren. He retired from Champion International and Blue Ridge Paper with 37 years of service. Fred was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He had a special affection for his horses and chickens. He was a unique man who was loved and will be missed by his family and all who knew him. He is survived by a son, Dewayne Cook; a daughter, Mikayla Gibson; a sister, Annetta C. Moore; a brother, Cliff Cook and his wife, Patti; several nieces and nephews; two grandchildren, Colton Cook and Little Bear; and a very special companion, Bonnie Henson. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2009, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend J. L. Young and the Reverend Dr. Roy Kilby officiating. Burial will follow at Long's Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Frank Lowery, Terry Black, Dean Waters, Tommy Parker, Lawrence Vick, Ryan Cook, and Kyle Kitchen.
