Fred Boss

Maggie Valley, NC, Fred Boss, age 84, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2011 at his residence. A native of London Ontario Canada, he was the son of the late Earl Boss and Sybil Higman Boss Blomqvist. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Gilson Boss, who passed away in 1984 and a step-brother, Erik J. Blomqvist, Jr. Fred earned his under graduate degree from the University of Vermont and a Masters Degree from North Carolina State University. He retired with 30 years' service with USDA as an extension agent serving Haywood and Madison County in North Carolina and Palm Beach County in Florida. He was a Major in the US Army serving in WWII and Korea. Fred was a member of the First Baptist Church of Waynesville where he volunteered with the prison ministry, delivering flowers to the shut-ins, and serving refreshments on Sunday and Wednesday evening. Fred was a member of the Kiwanis Club. He is survived by two daughters, Cammie Dewey and her husband, David, of Orlando, Florida and Lauren Martin and her husband, Greg, of Orange Park, Florida, one son, Fred Boss, Jr., and his wife, Kari, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and six grandchildren, Madison and Matthew Dewey, Megan and Lillie Martin and Sam and Betsy Boss. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Waynesville with Reverend Dr. Robert Prince officiating.
