Frank Hyatt

Waynesville, Frank Hyatt, age 88, died on Wednesday, January 05, 2011 at Canton Christian Convalescent Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of Robert Dan and Eppie Hall Hyatt. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Sutton Hyatt, who died in 2002; one son, Roger Neil Hyatt; and two brothers, Robert Dan Hyatt, Jr. and Bill Hyatt. He was a US Army Air Corps veteran, having served during World War II. During his time in the military, Frank was an avid pool player. Frank retired in 1985 as a supervisor of the Dayco Corporation where he was employed for more than 30 years. Frank enjoyed camping and was always on the go with his beloved dog, "Cowboy" looking for local treasures at yard sales. He also liked to eat out at local restaurants, especially Ammons, Shoney's, Beavers, and the truck stop. He is survived by two sons, Carroll Hyatt and his wife, Barbara and Michael Hyatt and his wife, Lucia; one daughter, Sarah Palmer and her husband, Bob, all of Waynesville; one brother, Tom Hyatt and his wife, Martha Lee, of Canton; six grandchildren, Brandy, Amber, Michael David, Shawn, Cody, and Chase; and two great grandchildren, Kimberly and Christopher. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2011 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Virgil Holloway officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park with military honors. Serving as pallbearers will be Johnny Price, Danny McElroy, Greg Palmer, David Hyatt, John and Charles Ballentine, and Matt Price. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Sutton and Kenny Cope. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. prior to services at the funeral home and at other times, at the home of Sarah Palmer.
