Florence Gibson

Waynesville, Florence "Flossie" Gibson, age 81, passed away on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Mission Hospital. She was born on January 14, 1929 in Reading, Pennsylvania and had been a resident of Haywood County since 1950. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas "Wid" Gibson who passed away in 1986 and a daughter, Donna Gibson, who passed away in 1970. Flossie was a longtime member of Hazelwood First Baptist Church, and for those who were lucky enough to have known her, were blessed. For those who did not know her, an opportunity was missed to know the most wonderful, loving, kind, and generous person in the world. She was a member of the VFW Post 5202 Auxiliary and the American Legion Post 47. She also volunteered at local nursing homes and the Veterans Hospital in Asheville and loved to play bingo. Flossie is survived by four children, Richard Frymoyer and wife, Hue, of Augusta, Georgia, Shirley Rich and husband, James, of Maiden, North Carolina, Nancy Sanders and husband, Tommy, of Westminster, South Carolina, and Thomas E. Gibson and wife, Milea, of Jonesborough, Tennessee; four sisters; two brothers; nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 6, 2010 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Tim Lolley officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. The Gibson family wishes to thank Dr. Robert Peterson for all his kindness and special attention given to their mom during the past year.
