Elizabeth Haynes

Waynesville – Elizabeth Lynn Haynes, age 65, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 after a sudden illness. She died quietly and peacefully at The Homestead. Elizabeth was born on February 13, 1950 at Ft. George G. Meade, MD. She was the daughter of the late Colonel Roy William (Bill) Farley and Audrey Lee Farley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David J. Haynes, who passed away on April 10, 2013. Elizabeth was born into an Army family and lived and traveled the world during her lifetime. She met her husband David, a Haywood county native in 1989 while she was living in Chicago. They were married on May 26, 1990 in the Memorial Chapel at Lake Junaluska and made their home at the Catalooche Ranch in Maggie Valley and later moved to Waynesville. Elizabeth was a highly motivated and talented teacher and mentor. Her academic pursuits began at Wake Forest University, where she graduated Cum Laude in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts in History. She then received her Masters of Science in Management from Florida International in 1985. Elizabeth concluded her academic career at North Carolina State University, where she received a Doctorate in Education, Adult and Community College Education, in May 1997. Elizabeth worked at institutions of higher education for over 11 years: managed a technology department at a community college and a sponsored research unit at a university; and taught 23 different business and computer courses at community colleges. She was a gifted teacher and extremely confident in her abilities to perform at the highest level at whatever endeavor she pursued. After her retirement, Elizabeth loved her community service at Sarge's Animal Rescue and was the interim Director for the Haywood Arts Council, which had become her second passion in life. Her first passion in life was being the devoted mother of two Pomeranian puppies, PB and J. She was a kind and loving wife and friend and will be greatly missed. Elizabeth requested no service be held. Her ashes will be placed with her husband, David, at the Lake Junaluska Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Haywood Arts Council, Sarge's Animal Rescue or The Homestead (Hospice and Palliative Care)
