Elizabeth Dixon-Swanger

October 29, 1953 — December 10, 2012

Elizabeth Dixon-Swanger, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, December 10, 2012. She was a daughter of Juanita Dixon and the late Clinton Dixon of Canton. Elizabeth graduated from Pisgah High School, Class of 1971, and N.C. State-Rex Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1975. She was a neuro nurse at Mission Hospital for 15 years. A talented craft person and cardmaker, her joy in life was making things for others. Her life was a witness to her Christian faith, and she shared it with anyone she came in contact with. Elizabeth always enjoyed lifting the spirits of others with her comedic antics. She taught Sunday school and conducted a prayer group at Silver Bluff for a long time. In addition to her mother, left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Amy Rose Swanger and Christina Brooke Swanger of Waynesville; Sisters, Cindy Dixon-Owen of Waynesville and Sheri Dixon-Henson (Steve) of Canton; one brother, Hugh Dixon of Greenville, South Carolina; three nephews; one niece; one great-nephew; two great-nieces; a special great-aunt and uncle, Ray and Cricket Williams of Canton; and numerous other family members that she loved with all of her heart. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrews on the Hill Episcopal Church in Canton at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 14, 2012 with Father Tim McRee officiating. Bible readings will be given by Marques Carrington and the Reverend Matt Pruett. Her ashes will be interred in the Memorial Garden at St. Andrews. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. A celebration of life service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday in the Venue of Long's Chapel United Methodist Church. Wells Funeral Home of Canton is in charge of the arrangements. It was her wish that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to Silver Bluff Activities Fund, 100 Silver Bluff Drive, Canton, NC 28716, St. Andrews Memorial Fund, 99 Academy Street, Canton, NC 28716, or her grandmother, Eugenia Scroggs Clark Nursing Scholarship at Haywood Community College, 185 Freedlander Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
