November 17, 2016 — February 2, 2016

Clyde, Jesse Edward "Ed" James, 78, of Briar Lane, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at The Homestead. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Jesse Carr and Connie Burnette James and was also preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel Wood, one brother, Walter James, and two sisters, Margaret Boone and Lynda Brown. He was a member of the US Naval Reserve and an employee at Champion International for 40 years. Ed was a member of Calvary Road Baptist Church for the past 20 years, and his life was dedicated to the Lord, his cherished family, and many wonderful friends. He had an amazing eye for detail which resulted in a beautifully manicured lawn and spotless vehicles. Ed also had a passion for children and always went out of his way to fellowship with them in the church nursery on Sunday mornings. He loved farming, traveling in his RV across the United States, and participating in projects at his church and visiting with his friends. Ed was also an avid sport enthusiast with a passion for the Dallas Cowboys and his beloved Duke Blue Devils. Above all, Ed's greatest blessings in life were his relationship with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and his dear wife of 40 years, Olene. In addition to his wife, Olene Fish James, he is survived by his daughter, April James of Chandler, Arizona; sons, Keith Wood and wife Tracy, of Etowah and Rodney James and wife, Andrea of Asheville; two sisters, Catherine "Kitten" Francis and Eleanor Justice, both of Waynesville; five grandchildren, Logan, Taylor and Tyler Wood and Patrick and Delaney James; two great-grandchildren, Levi and Kylie Wood; as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Calvary Road Baptist Church with Reverend John H. Swanger, III and Reverend Mark Golden officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until service time at the church. Memorials may be made to the Calvary Road Baptist Church Building Fund, 77 Sutton Loop, Waynesville, NC 28786.
