Doris Hensley

Canton – Doris Ford Hensley, age 81, passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at Pisgah Manor Health Care Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Myrtle Clark Ford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Hensley. Doris was devoted to her family, enjoyed spending time with friends and her dog, Lucy, cooking during the holidays, as well as traveling with her husband. She was blessed with wonderful neighbors who were always looking out for one another. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Cancer Care of WNC, especially Dr. Mike Messino and Brad Wilson, FNP, in addition to her special caregiver, Betty Watkins, for their loving care of Doris. She is survived by one daughter, Shanna Hawkins and her husband, David, of Asheville; one sister, Joan Browning and her husband, Bob, of Canton; three grandchildren, Ashley Browning and Dillon and Derek Hawkins; a niece, Robbie Patterson; and several special lifelong friends who she remained in close contact with. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2015 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Charlie Sams and Mr. Neil Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Canton Senior Center, c/o Mountain Projects, Inc., 2251 Old Balsam Road, Waynesville, NC 28786.
