Don Conkling

Waynesville, Donald Ray Conkling, age 82, died on Thursday, November 27, 2008 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Casper, Wyoming, he was the son of the late Ray C. and Florence Henry Conkling and was also preceded in death by a brother, William Conkling. He was a US Navy Veteran of World War II and later received his Chemical Engineering Degree from the University of Colorado. He retired in 1987 as a trainer from Phillips Petroleum after 24 years service. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anne Conkling; three sons, Donald B. Conkling and his wife, Brenda, of San Bruno, CA, Mark A. Conkling and his wife, Kim, of Chapel Hill, NC, and Steven W. Conkling of Trabuco Canyon, CA; one sister-in-law, Ann Louise Conkling, of Casper, WY; and six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Katherine, Shanté Ashley, Danté Ashley, Crystal, and Jonathan Conkling.
