Deane Foster

"1918 – 2016" Canton – Vivian Deane Sexton Foster, age 97, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2016 at Aston Park Healthcare. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late A.Y. Sexton and Alda Armes Sands. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray W. Foster, Sr.; a son, Ray Foster, Jr.; and a brother, Mozelle Sexton. Deane was artistic by nature and enjoyed crafts of all kinds and was also a talented seamstress and knitter. She was devoted to her family and cared loyally for each of them and was a dedicated member for over 75 years at Canton Presbyterian Church. Deane will be deeply missed. She is survived by two daughters, Alta Foster of Lake Junaluska, and Mary Burrus and her husband, Sam, of Clyde; one son, George Foster and his wife, Patsy, of Canton; six grandchildren, Tracy Hall (Brent), Jimmy Steppleton (Amanda), Cathy Prince, Stephanie Shepherd (Tim), Clara Burrus, and Brainard Burrus; and several nieces, nephews, and beloved great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at Canton Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Esta Jarrett officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall of the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Canton Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 986, Canton, NC 28716.
