Danny Ferguson

Matthews, NC – Leslie Daniel "Dan" Ferguson, age 64, died Sunday, October 7th. A native of Waynesville, he was the son of the late William McKinley and Catherine Muse Ferguson. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, William Ralph Ferguson and Michael Ferguson, and sisters Claudine Green, Ruby Alden, and Bonnie Hanson. He graduated from Waynesville Township High in 1966 and attended Western Carolina University, where he received a BA in History and was the first of his family to receive a four-year college degree. He spent most of his years in his beloved Waynesville, working as a real estate agent and later lived in Hilton Head, South Carolina, and, most recently, Matthews, North Carolina. He loved spending time with his wife, his family, and his grandchildren. He was an avid and skilled golfer, and once achieved his all-time low score of 66 on a Haywood County course. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Diane Ferguson; three daughters, Trina Olson, Ivy Graham, and her husband, Steve, and Leslie Ferguson-Oles and her husband, Andrew Oles; one son, Daniel Matus "Mat" Ferguson; two step-daughters, Jennifer Huligan and her husband, Evan, and Stephanie Secker and her husband, Mike; three sisters, Edna Harker of Asheville, Mary Keener and her husband, Lyman and Judy Shirley and her husband, Beuford; four brothers, Gerald Ferguson and his wife, Betsy, James Ferguson and his wife, Juanita, Eugene Ferguson, Terry Ferguson and his wife, Nancy; and nine grandchildren, Ava and Griffin Olson, Levi and Evalyn Ferguson-Oles, Clive Graham, Garret and Chloe Secker, and Peyton and Kennedy Hulighan. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 11, 2012 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Kathleen Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m. prior to services at the funeral home.
