Charlie Mcmahan

Maggie Valley, Charlie McMahan, age 83, of 611 Evans Cove Road, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 17, 2010. A native of Sevier County, Tennessee, he was the son of the late John and Mora Packett McMahan. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one daughter, Karen June McMahan; three brothers, Robert, Crawford, and Elmer McMahan; and two sisters, Mary Ellen McMahan and Ann Gibson. He was a US Navy veteran having served during World War II. He was employed in the Maintenance Department of the US Postal Service for 20 years, retiring in 1990 and a member of Victory Baptist Church. Charlie was an avid hunter and gardener and enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be missed by the family that loved him dearly and the friends that knew him. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sarah Setzer McMahan; one son, Dale McMahan and his wife, Wanda, of Maggie Valley; one daughter, Donna McMahan Rathbone; four grandchildren, Lynn McMahan Wyatt (Leon), Myra Jane McMahan (Tim Shultz), Brooke Rathbone (Michael Rich), and Ondrea Murphy (Chad); five great grandchildren, Blake Rathbone, Hunter Murphy, Bo and Hannah Wyatt, and Maddie Rich; and one great-great grandchild, Liam Ponder; and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Victory Baptist Church with Reverend Jerry Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at the Setzer Family Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Derick Grant, Jerry Morrow, Bo and Leon Wyatt, Chad Murphy, and Mike Rich. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
