Buddie Green

Waynesville, Buddie Green, age 87, of Brown Avenue, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 7, 2009 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Franklin County, NC and had resided in Haywood County most of his life. He was the son of the late Ervin and Lela Bowden Green. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two brothers, Matthew Lee and Rufus Ray Green; a sister, Louise Wester and his in-laws, Emma Mintz Ledford and Jerry Lloyd Ledford. He was a United States Navy veteran serving in World War II and in the Pacific aboard the USS Nevada BB36 Seaman 2nd Class V6. During the time he served in the Navy he earned the following medals: American Area Victory WWII, Asiana- Pacific and two Stars. Buddie retired from Unagusta / Lea Industries with 44 years service and was a member of Hazelwood Church of God where he and his wife were honored as the oldest members. During his lifetime he was a volunteer fireman for 15 years for the Hazelwood fire department, he loved to work on automobiles and lawnmowers and especially enjoyed working in the yard and mowing. Buddie was well loved by all who knew him and was a friend to all and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ruth Ledford Green; a son James O. "Bud" Green and his wife, Patti, of Canton; two daughters, Ruth J. Haskett and her husband, Wade, and Patricia G. Palleva both of Waynesville; one sister, Dollie M. Holland of Morganton; brother, Robert L. Green of Johnson City, TN; six grandchildren, Jamie Green and his wife, Revonda, O. David Green and his wife, Vivian, Gary Stephen Haskett, Shannon Lee Haskett, and his wife, Tanya, Dennis C. Buchanan, and his wife, Ana and Terri Lynn Haskett; eight great grandchildren, Brittany Green Shelton, Kelly Buchanan, Audriana Thompson, Zachary Holcombe, Austin Green, Tanner Green, Travis Green and Jacob Levi Haskett and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2009 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Johnny Cox, Reverend Larry Nix and Reverend Keith Nix officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A- Venture Cemetery Old Clyde Road with Military Honors conducted by VFW Post 5202 and the American Legion Post 47 of which he was a member. The flag will be presented by his grandson Sgt. Major O. David Green of the US Army. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be great grandsons and Jordan Cox. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at 994 Brown Avenue.
