Bill Stamey

Lewis Seldon "Bill" Stamey, age 94, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Arch J. and Lucy Henson Stamey. He was also preceded in death by a son, Benny Stamey, who died in 1998. He retired from Champion International with 36 years of service and was a member of Dutch Cove Baptist Church. He loved farming and fox hunting. He is survived by two daughters, Judith Ann Rice of Boaz, Alabama and Kathy Smathers and her husband, Kermit, of Canton; two sons, Mickey Charles Stamey of Canton and Rickey Wayne Stamey and his wife, Susan, of Clyde; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Roy Houston officiating. Burial will follow at Long's Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
