Betty Smith

June 11, 1931 — November 21, 2012

Maggie Valley, Betty Ruth Sutton Smith, age 81, of 260 Pot Leg Road, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at MedWest Haywood. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Jess and Jimmie White Sutton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Raymond D. Smith, who died in 1985, her daughter, Ann Smith, and three brothers. Betty loved cooking Sunday dinner for her family and was a member of First Baptist Church of Maggie. Next to the Lord, Betty had an unshakable love for her family and many friends. She is survived by one son, Donald Smith and his companion, Robin Greene, of Waynesville; two sisters, Martha "Smokey" McMahan and Peggy Martin, both of Maggie Valley; two brothers, Thomas Sutton and his wife, Joy, and Jess Sutton, Jr. and his wife, Patty, all of Waynesville; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 25, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Maggie with Reverend Ricky Mason officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Maggie General Fund, P.O. Box 309, Maggie Valley, NC 28751.
