Betty Payne

Canton – Betty Louise Stamey Payne, age 81, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born and raised in Buncombe County and had lived most of her life in Haywood County. She was the daughter of the late Dennis F. and Evelyn Warren Stamey. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Christine Arrington; a granddaughter, Alyssa Boyd; a grandson, Jody Brown; a step-brother, Pete Jones; a step-sister, Lib Hutchinson. Betty loved her family dearly and treasured her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Fisher of Canton and Angie Brown and her husband, Kevin, of Clyde; five sons, Lloyd Wayne Trull of Canton, Gary Trull and his wife, Julie, of Pickens, SC, David Payne and his wife, Djuana, of Canton, Keith Payne of Canton, and Anthony Payne and his wife, Ginger, of Clyde; three sisters, Reva Trull of Candler, Dixie Gaddy of Dewey Rose, GA, and Doris Shope of Candler; a step-sister, Bonnie Gosnell of Candler; a brother, Carroll Stamey of Greenville, TN; a step-brother, Bill Jones of Asheville; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate her life and rejoice in the resurrection of her soul into heaven will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2012, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
