Betty Davis

June 9, 1930 — June 28, 2004

Waynesville-Betty Lou Morris Davis, age 74, of McElroy Cove Road, died Monday, June 28, 2004 at her residence. A native of Gadsden, Florida, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Lorenzo Morris and Mary Eunice Van Landingham Morris Rouse. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Florene Hines. She received her master's degree from Florida State University and was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She was a career teacher from every level from first grade through college having taught at Gadsden County Public Schools, Tallahassee Community College, Florida A & M University, and Naples High School. She was an avid gardener and a member of the Waynesville Garden Club and a founding member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Chattahoochee, Florida and was also a former member of Trinity-by-the-Cove Episcopal Church in Naples, Florida. She was a member of Davis Chapel United Methodist Church and had attended Grace Episcopal Church in the Mountains. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Julian Carlyle Davis; two daughters, Betty Shannon Ventry and her husband, Bobby, of Boca Raton, Florida and Marianne Bryant and her husband, Bill, of Tallahassee, Florida; two sons, Zachary C. Davis and his wife, Jo, of Naples, Florida and Richard M. Davis of Waynesville; and four grandchildren, Kurtis D. Ventry, Lauren Lea Bryant, Zachary Bryant, and Will Bryant. Memorial services will be held at Grace Episcopal Church in the Mountains at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 1, 2004 with Reverend Heber Peacock and Reverend J.C. Grose officiating. Following the service, the family will have a reception at their home, 1020 McElroy Cove Road, Waynesville. Memorials may be made to Haywood Regional Medical Center, 262 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721 or Grace Episcopal Church in the Mountains, 394 N. Haywood Street, Waynesville, NC 28786. Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services of Waynesville is in charge of arrangements.
