Betty Jones

July 10, 1926 — May 22, 2007

Waynesville-Betty Jean Jones, age 80, of Chancery Lane, died on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Reverend R.J. and Martha Elizabeth Sims Donaldson and was also preceded in death by her brother, Roy J. Donaldson, Jr. She received her degree at Bob Jones University and was a teacher for learning disabled children in the Houston, Texas area and later in Haywood County at the Summit Academy. She co-founded Project SOAR. She is survived by a daughter, Joy Elizabeth Jones, of Waynesville; three sons, James H. Jones and his wife, Jana, of Waynesville, Jonathan A. Jones and his wife, Wandajean, of Balsam, and David D. Jones and his wife, Vicki, of Montgomery, Texas; and six grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at Rehoboth Baptist Church with Reverend Jim Brackett officiating. Memorials may be made to the Betty Jones Memorial Scholarship, c/o SOAR, Inc., P.O. Box 388, Balsam, NC 28707.
