Betty Smathers

Canton-Betty Jane Smathers-age 76 of Pisgah Villa Assisted Living Center in Candler died Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at the Brian Center of Weaverville.

She was a native of Haywood County where she lived most of her life. She was a daughter of the late Perry G. and Jessie Mell Smathers. She retired from Dayco with over 40 years of service and was a member of Sunny Point Baptist Church.

She is survived by one brother; H.P. Smathers and his wife Aldeen of Weaverville and several cousins.

Funeral services will be Thursday, May 29, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes with Reverend Cecil Fox officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Morning Star United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sunny Point Baptist Church, 132 Sunny Point Drive, Canton, NC 28716.
