Benilda Queen

June 15, 1940 — May 14, 2004

Waynesville-Benilda Queen, age 63, of Love Lane, died Friday, May 14, 2004 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. She was a native of Cebu, Philippines having lived in Haywood County since 1980. She was the daughter of the late Priscillo and Constancia Matas Peñas. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Socorro Castro. She attended the University of Visayas, in Cebu, Philippines. She was employed by Kellwood Corporation and Sylco Corporation in the sewing department. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church. She enjoyed sewing. She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Larry Queen of Waynesville; her step-sister, Linda Peñas and her two brothers, Steve and Jun Peñas, all of the Philippines. A memorial mass will be held at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 22, 2004 at St. John's Catholic Church. Father Dennis McGowan will officiate. Memorials may be made to St. John's Catholic Church Building Fund, 234 Church Street, Waynesville, NC 28786. Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services of Waynesville is in charge of arrangements.
