Barbara Dillon

December 3, 1958 — August 22, 2015

Clyde, Barbara Marie Nelson Dillon, age 56, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2015, following a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late Elizabeth and Bernard A. Egan. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Michael J. Egan, and sister, Mary Theresa Egan. Barbara was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She lived in Vero Beach, attended St. Helen Catholic School, and graduated from Vero Beach High School. She graduated from the University of Florida and earned her Masters of Occupational Therapy from Rush University in Chicago. Barbara and her husband Richard Dillon were married in Fort Pierce, Florida, and have lived in Clyde, North Carolina, since 2005. She was active in volunteering for many local North Carolina charities. Barbara was most content creating mosaics, sewing, and scrapbooking. She enjoyed using her God-given talents to give gifts of love to others and to create beauty in her home and garden and her life. She had a quirky humor, was deeply compassionate, and selflessly cared for others. She will be greatly missed by family and friends and remembered as a gentle mother who devoted her life to the care of her special needs daughter, Sarah. Barbara was deeply spiritual, filled with faith, hope, and love. She was a devoted Catholic and parishioner of St. John the Evangelist, and Immaculate Conception Catholic churches. She was active in Respect Life causes. She is survived by her loving husband, Richard Dillon, their children, Sarah Watts, Eric Watts and Brittney Dillon; her sisters and brothers, Patricia Egan, Catherine Gilet (Jean Jacques), John Nelson (Lisa), Bernadette Emerick (Mike), Catherine Rohm (Ronnie), Mary Shinn (Jack), Anne Sinnott (Paul), and Greg Nelson (Angela), 25 nieces and nephews and her beloved neighbors and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 28th at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Waynesville, North Carolina, with Father Larry LoMonaco officiating. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please contribute to either Open Hearts Art Center, 5 Woodland Drive Asheville, NC 28806 or to the charity of your choice.
