Waynesville, Barbara Margaret "Barbi" Bennett, age 67, of Rocky Knob Road, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at her residence. Born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, she was a former resident of Princeton, New Jersey, had resided in Haywood County for the past 20 years, and was the daughter of the late Emil and Margaret Puskas Wunderle. Barbi was very community-minded and philanthropic to many local organizations. Her involvement in the community spanned many local organizations: REACH, HAWA, SARGE'S, Haywood County Arts Council, Haywood Regional Medical Center Foundation, where she was a board member and HART Theatre, where she was also on the board. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, John R. Bennett; his son, John Patrick Bennett of Virginia; her daughter, Patti Whitlock of Port St. Lucie, Florida; her son, Dean Whitlock and his wife, Sandra, of Rockwall, Texas; her brothers, Carl Wunderle and his wife, Debbie, of Newnan, Georgia and twin brother, Emil M. Wunderle of Anchorage, Alaska; three grandchildren, Alexandra Whitlock, Christopher Nizborski, and John Robert Nizborski; and a nephew, Jonathan Wunderle of LaGrange, Georgia. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Chaplain David Williams officiating.
