Aj Davis

Waynesville, AJ Davis, age 71, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2014 at the VA Hospice Center in Asheville after a long battle with cancer. AJ was the youngest of twelve children born to Jarrett and Ollie Wikle Davis. In addition to his parents, AJ was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Davis; a brother, Hoyatt Davis; and sisters, Annie and Viola "Jodie" Davis, Stella Palmer, Amy Dills, and Lois Tipton. AJ was a US Army veteran having served during the Vietnam Era and was later employed at H.T. Hackney Company. He was a member of Pleasant Balsam Baptist Church. AJ is survived by three sisters, Vaudie Davis of Canton, Gladys Hooper (Wesley) of Franklin and Ocie Stinnett of Mills River; two brothers, Dallas Davis (Emma) of Canton and Hanley Davis (Linda) of Knoxville. He is also survived and was loved by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A celebration of life service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2014 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Davis Hooper and Albert Allen officiating. Music will be provided by Emily Yontz and Reverend Ken Sausedo. Burial will be at Buchanan Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends from 4:30 until 6:00 p.m. prior at the funeral home. Special thanks to the wonderful caregivers at the VA Hospice, Care Partners Hospice and to his nephew, Larry Davis and wife, Marie, who he lived with during his illness.
