Obituary for Ted M. Reiter

Ted Marshall Reiter, age 82, died on Monday, January 1, 2018 at Haywood Lodge and Retirement Center in Waynesville.

Born in Youngstown, Ohio, Ted was the son of the late Homer and Ruth Marshall Reiter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Marshall Reiter, and sister, Diane Petersen.

Ted was a graduate of the Florida State University College of Business, whose alumni groups he served in a number of capacities for many years. After serving briefly in the US Army, he went on to a 45-year career as a Certified Public Accountant in Ocala, Florida, with special expertise in estate planning.

A life-long fan of the Seminoles and of NASCAR, Ted received recognition for attending 50 consecutive Daytona 500 races. He was active in the Elks Club in Ocala and the Lions Club in Ocala as well as in Canton, where he and his wife have lived for the past 15 years. They are members of First United Methodist Church, Waynesville.

Ted was known for his outgoing, gregarious spirit and infinite supply of stories based in a prodigious recall of events. His love of country music was a special comfort to him in his final days.

Ted is survived by his wife of 37 years, Elizabeth "Zibs" Reiter; son, Ernie Reiter, and his wife, Kathi, of Jacksonville, Florida; two step-daughters, Dawn Pierce, of Donellon, Florida, and Natalie Chaney, of Melbourne, Florida; two step-sons, David Rogers and Wade Rogers, both of Asheville; five grandchildren, Stefanie and Mitchell Reiter, Nicki Blenker, Kelly Connell and Kyra Chaney; and three great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

A funeral service will take place at Wells Funeral Home, Waynesville, on Saturday, January 6, at 2 pm, followed by a reception. A celebration of his life will take place in the near future in Ocala.

The care of Mr. Reiter has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes and an online memorial register is available at “Obituaries” at
