Obituary for Mary Rhea Hall

Canton – Mary Rhea Hall, age 67, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully at her residence on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 following a courageous battle with cancer.

Mary was born in Pasadena, Texas to her late parents Robert Duckett Rhea and Hortense Holtzclaw Belt. She was a 1970 graduate of Pisgah High School and also a graduate of King’s College in Charlotte. Mary was a former receptionist at Midway Medical Center and retired as a medical administrative assistant at Hope Women’s Cancer Centers of Asheville. Mary was a member of Morning Star United Methodist Church. Her hobbies included needlepoint and knitting and Mary cherished her time at Lake Chatuge and the beach.

When Mary was diagnosed with her cancer, she made the choice to live every single day with a spirit of gratitude. When you made a visit to lift Mary’s spirit, you would walk away as being the one whose spirit had been lifted. Even on days that may have been challenging for Mary with her ever-present optimistic attitude, she would always state “it’s been a great day”. The true love of Mary’s life was her family. She especially loved and adored her grandchildren.

Mary is survived by her devoted husband of 45 years, Thomas G. Hall, Jr.; two daughters, Shelia Hall Zavaglia and her husband, Joseph, of Asheville and Tammy Hall Irish of Fletcher; one son, Anthony Hall and his wife, Jenny, of Northville, Michigan; one sister, Claudia Buie and her husband, Neil, of Stedman, NC; and six grandchildren, Lauren, Jonathan, and Andrew Zavaglia, Grayson Irish, and Henry and McKenna Hall.

A service celebrating Mary’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Morning Star United Methodist Church with Reverend Nicole Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Morning Star Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. Saturday prior to the services at the church.

Memorials may be made to the Improvement Fund or the Cemetery Fund of Morning Star United Methodist Church, 2535 Dutch Cove Rd, Canton, NC 28716.
