Obituary for Frances Caswell Williams

Clyde, NC - Frances Caswell Williams, 64, passed away at home in Clyde on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 after a long battle with ovarian cancer.

Born in West Chester, Pennsylvania on March 25, 1953, she was the daughter of M. Dean and Virginia Wilcox Caswell of Suffield, Connecticut. Frances spent most of her childhood in Suffield, Connecticut and much of her adult life in Grand Forks, North Dakota before moving to Clyde. She graduated from Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio with a degree in art and psychology. She was an accomplished fiber artist specializing in art quilting and was active with the Fiber Arts Alliance in Asheville. She found beauty in nature and loved sunsets, the mountains, cats and gardens. She found great joy in singing and was a member of the Choir at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Canton, North Carolina. She was a National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) trained peer counselor and advocate for those suffering from bipolar depression, and she led a peer group once a week at her church.

In addition to her father, Frances is survived by her husband of 42 years, John Williams; daughters, Elanor Williams of Bloomington, Indiana and Catherine Williams of Weaverville, North Carolina; four sisters, Susan Quaglia of Manchester, Connecticut, Elizabeth Cini of Springfield, Massachusetts, Martha Jaffe of Rocky Hill, Connecticut and Diane Christian of Suffield, Connecticut; and one brother, William Caswell of Baldwinsville, New York.

A memorial service will be held at St. Andrews on the Hill Episcopal Church in Canton, North Carolina at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), or the St. Andrews on the Hill Episcopal Church Hope for the Future Fund, P.O. Box 947, Canton, NC 28716.
