Bud Noland

"Gone Fishing"

Waynesville, Bud Noland, age 80, of the Iron Duff Community passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 24, 2017 at The Homestead.

A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Orville L. Noland and his mother, Sarah McCracken Noland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Jo Collins and Martha Mae Mehaffey and grandparents, Dock and Mora Rogers Noland. He was a US Army veteran, a graduate of Mars Hill College and a retiree of the NCDOT where he worked as a surveyor. Bud loved and was devoted to his family. He was an avid fly fisherman and enjoyed camping and horseback-riding with his friend and co-worker, Jerry Rathbone, who is now deceased. He coached Little League Baseball and also enjoyed poetry and music and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. He was a man of faith and shared an exemplary quality of life.

Bud is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lucille Noland; daughters, Suzanne Mollo (Todd) and Sarah Wendy King (Kelvin); a son, Manson Noland (Sonja Kirkpatrick); brother, David A. Noland, and his wife, Angie, of Sylva; and five grandchildren, Whitney King Embler (Scott), Becca Mollo Shannon (Alden), Kendra Noland, Kelby Noland and Caleb King; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2017 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Blake Daniel officiating. Burial will follow at Crabtree Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Caleb King, Kelby Noland, Alden Shannon, Scott Embler, Junior and Matthew McElrath, The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank everyone who sent Bud a card or offered up a prayer for healing, especially those 45 years ago when Bud was fighting cancer at the age of 36 and also to the staff of The Homestead.
